Harry Charles, who left Churcher's at the end of his Lower Sixth year in 2017, won a gold in the Team Showjumping Final at the Olympic Games in Paris in July. Making his Olympic début, just four weeks after breaking his wrist, he secured gold in the Team Showjumping Final which took place at the Château de Versailles. Harry was second to go for the GB team and pulled off a superb clear round with no penalties, which he has described as "the round of my life". With his two fellow team members gaining only one time penalty each, it meant Great Britain won the team event for only the third time ever, finishing two points ahead of silver medallists the United States.

The last time Great Britain won gold in the Team Showjumping event was at London 2012, when the team consisted of Harry's two team mates from today and his father, Peter Charles.  It was a hugely impressive performance from Harry, Old Churcherian and Olympic Champion.

On 18 August, just two weeks after winning a gold medal Harry Charles, tasted yet more success. He enjoyed his first ever victory on the Longines Global Champions Tour, by winning his home event in London held in the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea. Harry was one of seven riders who posted a clear round and qualified for the jump-off, in which he posted another clear round with the fastest time, just a quarter of a second faster than the second placed rider! Harry’s victory has qualified him for the Super Grand Prix in Rabat, Morocco, at the end of the season, as well as earning him prize money of €165,000.

You can read more about Harry’s victory in this Horse & Hound article, and watch highlights of the event, including an interview with the winner here.
