On Sunday 15th August, the Garden Museum in London will be transformed into a wonderland of circus, storytelling and magic. The Festival of Fairy Tales is a new event for children aged 4 – 10, set against the backdrop of the Garden Museum’s home of a medieval church. Be guided by the genie through a world of gnomes and butterflies, golden fish and magic, and make a wish on a tree. The optional dress code is Woodland Creatures!

Created and produced by, Emma Stones (10), the festival’s pop-up characters will include several Old Churcherians and the storytelling backdrop set within courtyard garden will be designed and made by Emily Wye (15).

Children will be free to explore the museum and discover pop-up performers, craft workshops, storytelling, music and circus performances. Highlight performances by Nkomba - contemporary Malawian folk band, Logy on Fire – circus street performer and Lauren and the Storybox – storyteller.

The Garden Café will host a BBQ in the gardens and the Museum’s head gardener, Matt Collins, will be planting wishing tree seeds for kids to take home with them.

The Museum was set up in 1977 in order to rescue from demolition the abandoned ancient church of St Mary’s which is the burial place of John Tradescant (c1570 – 1638), the first great gardener and plant-hunter in British history. His magnificent and enigmatic tomb is the centrepiece of a knot garden planted with the flowers which grew in his London garden four centuries ago.  It is locatec next door to Lambeth Palace, sitting on the bank of the Thames looking across to Parliament. Only a ten minute walk from Vauxhall, Westminster and Lambeth North stations.
