On a fine autumnal day in October, nine members of Liphook's U3A attended the school as special guests to learn a bit more of the College's history. The tour was organised following interest raised by a U3A talk given by former Deputy Head, Gill Clarke, in Liphook.  Several members asked whether they could visit the school to see for themselves the college's grounds and buildings which Gill knew and spoke of so fondly.

Starting with Old College in the Headmaster's old office (now a reception room for guests) the tour commenced. The group were keen to learn about the buildings and their use which has been adapted over the years from the original boarding school housing 12 boys in 1722, to the present day school with over 1,000 students. The need to accommodate the growing numbers of students and teachers over the years was evident as was the change of dormitories to classrooms.

After a short tour inside the College, the tour continued outside due to lessons being held within the school's buildings. The group were curious to learn of the various Headmasters, the school's House system and the stories brought to life from the archive from the second world war to date. The tour lasted just over an hour and Barrie Watson, who organised the U3A tour following Gill's history talk said 'everyone is still really impressed with the college. The visit brought it all to life very vividly.'

We really enjoyed showing the Liphook U3A members around and look forward to more history visits with organisations such as the U3A in the future.
